Liz Hodges is the artist behind the stamp on our Hound mugs.
Joan Ransley is a food stylist, photographer and writer, based in West Yorkshire. She creates beautiful images displaying John Julian ceramics and we often feature her images.
Makoto Kagoshima collaborates with John Julian to create beautiful one-off collections. Kagoshima visits our workshop to hand paint directly onto unfired John Julian pieces as well as designing stamps that our potters use to create a range of tableware. Kagoshima’s paintwork is typical of his linear style, but with a quintessentially British-themed twist.
Each piece is shaped from clay with care and craftsmanship. Staying sympathetic to the original lino cut design Sarah created, a rubber stamp was prepared digitally to give a similar result. Once the clay firms up, ceramic ink is applied to the stamp and carefully stamped by hand on to each piece, making each one individual. Once fully dried, they are glazed ready to enter the kiln.
